Woodlands One, Woodlands, Ontario, Canada

Woodlands One | N 44.59.02 W 74.59.22 | Woodlands, Ontario, Canada

Swept and formed by river currents, seaweed now grows where crops once stood on farmland that first stretched to the river’s edge and then to the highway in Woodlands Ontario. The community was founded in the 1780s by German speaking Loyalists fleeing the American Revolution. The outlines of some of their and their descendants’ buildings are barely visible beside the still intact asphalt of King’s Highway No. 2. Small and unincorporated before the Inundation, Woodlands – the name and the community – is largely forgotten now.
