Wales Building One, Wales, Ontario, Canada

Wales Building One | N 45.00.32 W 74.55.01 | Wales, Ontario, Canada

Concrete floor and foundation of a building in Wales, Ontario. One broken piece of concrete juts above water so shallow that at certain times of year one can wade along the village’s streets in ankle deep water. Structures in deeper water are generally more intact than those in shallow water. The lapping of waves in summer and the freeze-thaw of winter has broken up and eroded many of the shallower remains of buildings and roads. Wales was the only inland village flooded by the Seaway; most of its 200 residents moved to Ingleside, Ontario.
