Morrisburg Locks and Boat | N 44.53.39 W 75.10.19 | Morrisburg, Ontario, Canada

A boat making its way over the No. 23 Morrisburg Locks, lying just offshore of the present day waterfront. Largely intact, these locks formed the entrance to the Rapid-Plat canal part of the original, 1847 system of locks and canals. About one third of Morrisburg including its Main Street and business district were wiped away by the construction of the Seaway. These locks are now a scuba diving attraction part of a vast underwater landscape between Cardinal and Cornwall where the artefacts in the shallows and deeps of the St Lawrence River help make sense of what was built in their place by the politicians, planners and engineers of the St Lawrence Seaway.
